We Raised Funds for Two Teachers at Asilong Primary to Attend College for the First Year!

It is with great excitement that I can say that this team raised the funds for Paul and Geoffrey to attend MOI University this fall.  I sent out many letters to friends and family to see if they would assist me in raising the funds for them to attend the university.  I want to give thanks to everyone who was able to support this cause.  As Leila, Sophia, Alex and I saw at Asliong, education is extremely important.  I can not stress this enough.  We hope these two young men will be the start of many from Pokot to attend college.  We hope to have doctors, lawyers, business men and women, and pastors coming from the place we taught students how to use a laptop.

It has just been one year since our team was teaching students at Asilong, but I keep in touch with many of them through email.  I will have Paul and Geoffrey post on this blog every month about the lessons they are learning.  Also I would like to call anyone who has been keeping up with our blog to action.  We have raised funds for the first year, but will need more funds to keep these two brilliant men in college for four years.  If you would like to help by giving a donation, you can do this by sending a check to:

University Baptist Church

1701 Dutton Ave

Waco,TX 76706

***In the memo line of the check, please make sure that you put “teacher scholarship” so the office will know that it is for the Teacher Scholarship Fund.

If there are any questions, please email me at Brandon_Webb@baylor.edu

God Bless,

Brandon

Brandon, This is great of you and your team. Keep up the good spirit. Just an update about Asilong. I’ve just arrived from the school with a team of twenty teachers and education officers from Eldoret Municipality that had gone to the school to appreciate the good work the teachers and children there are doing “Teachers from the City going to Asilong to learn about the XO-laptops project implementation”. The children are now able to use the laptops without much difficulty especially class 6 and 7. Thanks for your continued support. On this end, SNV and Kificom will always make sure that the capacity of the teachers is continually developed to ensure the project progresses. Actually, we want to support the Asilong project so that the whole of Africa can come to learn from this successful case. Otherwise keep on supporting the teachers to acquire education.

    Regards

      Mathew,

I am so glad the children have learned to use the XO laptops without much difficulty. I remember when we first showed the children the laptops….they were all so amazed but did not know how to use the laptops. I am glad that they can actually use them and continue to further their education. This project will truly transform lives of the children of Asilong primary and will be an example for the rest of Kenya. I am so grateful for the efforts of SNV and Kificom are there to ensure the progress of the teachers. It is so important that the teachers feel comfortable with using the XO laptops as a teaching tool that can go along with any school curriculum.
